Since it’s the first portrayal of a person’s personality, most people if not all try their level best to dress appropriately when in a social situation.
However, the definition of appropriate is very subjective. It may even differ from one context to another but there is one such gauge that sets the standards of appropriate dressing aka dress code called culture. Today, we will look into several cultures across the globe and try to learn about their dressing codes.
Asian culture
Asian culture features clothes like Saris and Shalwar Kameez in the South Asian region. Both dresses modestly cover a women’s body. Men wear Sherwani, which is a long coat that hugs their body; Sherwani is only worn on special occasions while Shalwar Kameez is more of casual attire.
In the same region, lies the culturally rich country of China. There you can find dresses made from silk that is worn by the elites, the Hanfu and a collared piece of clothing with buttons upfront called Qipao.
European culture
While European culture is supposedly the only culture with excessive mannerism and finesse, it has its ups and downs. Kilt a skirt worn by Scottish people dates back to King George 2 rule, who banned them and after almost 35 years it became associated with the whole of Scotland. You can find also the Sarafan, a Russian dress- whose length depends upon the social status of the wearer. This dress is still worn today in rural areas. This is only a small portion of the European dressing codes.
American culture
Huipil, Poncho, Sombrero Vueltiao, Quadrille dress, and the Carnival Costume are a few attire pieces that are specific to the free American culture. Among all the cultural dresses the one who is best known is the Native American deerskin dress.
